Follow-up Comment #2, bugs #11820 (project avr-libc):
Look a patch #3851 ('dtostre' speed up). This is another realization this
function (preliminary now). Accuracy is 0.5 LSB (not fully tested) with
precisions 0..6 (1..7 digits), and 0.58 LSB with precision 7 (8 digits).
