Follow-up Comment #2, patch #7604 (project avrdude):
I'm not opposed to such a commandline parameter as such, but
as we've almost exhausted the alphabet for our option letters ;),
I'd prefer to use a -x "extended option" which is up to the
programmer itself. Generic options should IMHO only be used
for really generic things. (Yes, this has not always been
the case in the past, but that's why I invented the -x
option.)
