[Axiom-developer] Building axiom--main--1--patch-44 fails

I checked out Axiom using:
tla get axiom--main--1

I can not get the build to complete.

cd axiom--main--1--patch-44
./configure
export AXIOM=/home/jocelyn/usr/source/axiom/axiom--main--1--patch-44/mnt/linux
export PATH=$AXIOM/bin:$PATH
make

causes the build process to hang(?)

I have tried to restart the build by stopping all processes
and starting make again.

The build hangs again, same place:

/bin/sh: line 0: [: too many arguments
                                            
All I get is "/bin/sh: line 0: [: too many arguments..". 
The make script does not seem to complete and return to the bash shell
and give me the cursor back. It just waits.

uname -a
Linux lfs 2.6.12 #1 Sat Jun 18 20:54:49 CEST 2005 i686 pentium4 i386 GNU/Linux
