Sorry, I don't understand this point (or perhaps I just don't get the
humor? it's late and I'm easily confused right now).
That patch is needed because the "+=" is copied from Makefile.am into
Makefile.in and then into Makefile. Some versions of "make" complain
about "+=" and exit.
