Hi David,
Was running some long work-related simulations on win-32 there, so couldn't
reboot into 64 until an hour or two ago. Have now tried previewing using
all the available file types on my system (png, pnm, jpg, dvipng and tiff, as
far as I remember) all with the same result. Have had the same results with
a few of the different pre-compiled win-32 binaries available for
web-download. Might download a few of the relevant tools and have a go at
compiling it myself over the weekend, unless you have any other suggestions?
This problem reared its head a while back and I've done a fair bit of
googling on the subject with out turning up anything. Have you reports of
anyone using preview successfully under Win64? It does seem more likely to
be an Emacs-under-win64 than a preview-latex problem, to my untutored eye at
least.
Regards,
Cormac Cannon

Maybe you are linking with unsuitable image libraries?

Try
M-x customize-variable RET preview-image-type RET

and play through a few different types (I presume that image support
in itself works basically, for example showing a working toolbar).
Don't forget to "Save for Session" before starting a preview.

Maybe it is just PNG which breaks.
