Great, you chose exactly the viewer with most mentions in tex.el!  Did
you have to replace also strings like

    /org/gnome/evince/Daemon

to

    /org/mate/atril/Daemon

?

A diff of the changes you did would be useful to understand what we
need to do.  A trivial search-and-replace (and nothing more) isn't
legally significant for copyright reasons.

Tassilo (you are the most involved in Evince stuff), how about a
customizable option, a list, holding the string "gnome" and "evince"
or "mate" and "atril"?
