Depends on whether the documented behavior predates the drop of default handlers. IOW:- if this statement has been present in the documentation for ages, including when SIGPIPE got the default behavior, then signals are out of the picture, and it makes sense to emulate libc's default handlers.
- if this statement was born in the redefine-handlers era, then indeed it encompasses signals and should be respected.
