Hi,
I still don't understand you problem exactly but I compiled gdb 5.0 a couple
of days ago using gcc 3.0 on my cygwin installation. I did this twice, once
for the host platform (cygwin) and then for the avr target (an old  patch
that I ported from 4.18)
Both compilations were successful and I tested the cygwin executable a bit -
I didn't find any problems.
Do you use the latest gcc version?
