Hi Philip,
your's is the only report of it's kind we've had and is not
readily reproduced. So we would need more information.
GNU Chess 4 is no longer being developed or supported by us.
If you are using Winboard I assume it has a "debug" option like
xboard, which might sched some light on the situation. Also what
precise version of GNU Chess 5, and what interface are you
using?
A test version of gnuches5.exe is available at
http://www.wretched.demon.co.uk/R505, which has some additional
bug fixes and other features, and is suitable for use with
Winboard.
