Kevin says apparently there are several out there.  Also including

therefore with so many "underground" packages to do the same thing,
could you please pick one to become an official part of GNU Emacs, and
thus reach one of the goals of free software, of eliminating
duplication of effort.

Well, every so often I am bothered by a lack of a basic functionality
so much that I 'elevate the problem' gnu.emacs.bug.  The customer was
alarmed so much that he just had to bypass the clerks and
attendants...  he felt that, "oh no, I know, they are going to offer
me some more morphine [underground packages] instead of fixing the
basic problem [no official package to this very day.]"
