Yeah, I tried this.  Unfortunately, there's at least 
two bugs here.  

1) The resulting ps file uses a value called
"mudelstafflines" (or something like that) but REALLY
wants to use "mudelstafflines*width*".  This results
in an undefined symbol.

2) Hand-editing to change this allows the file to be
viewed, but it's "just not right".  The stems are
there but the heads are just dots or stars.  

If you can't reproduce this, I'll create an ly file
and the ps file I get and send them to you as
illustrations.  BTW, I've only tried the stable
series.

Maybe I should just bite the bullet and download all
the tools/libs needed to compile this myself on my
home machine.  Then I can supply patches with my bug
reports...8^)  Unfortunately, I'm in the midst of
moving to a new house.  My net access goes away on
Friday and my computer will be packed on Saturday.
