postscript files unreadable

I'm not able to read (nor is a friend of mine) the postscript version
of the reference manual, available at
http://lilypond.org/Documentation/user/out-www/lilypond.ps.gz

I'm using gv under linux, I get errors like

Error: /undefinedAladdin Ghostscript 6.0: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
 in set_tex_dimen
Operand stack:
   lilypondpaperblotdiameter (lilypondpaperblotdiameter )
Execution stack:
   %interp_exit .runexec2 --nostringval-- --nostringval--
--nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push --nostringval-- --nostringval--
--nostringval-- false 1 %stopped_push 1 3 %oparray_pop .runexec2
 --nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval-- 2 %stopped_push
--nostringval-- --nostringval-- --nostringval--
Dictionary stack:
   --dict:946/983(ro)(G)-- --dict:0
Error: PostScript interpreter failed in main window.

The offending command seems to involve lilypondpaperblotdiameter and
\'s, which (I don't think postscript actually uses \'s, though I could
be wrong). My friend who knows postscript is guessing that maybe,
when we're seeing:

/lilypondpaperblotdiameter (\lilypondpaperblotdiameter ) set_tex_dimen

there was supposed to be a number instead of (\lilypondpaperblotdiameter).

I have no trouble generating and viewing my own lilypond music files,
but it would be useful (probably to others as well) to be able to view
the manual in postscript.
