The fact that standard C library can supply translated month names but
cannot supply translated day names means the limitation of this model,
because the idea that we will need to translate month names while we
will not need to translate day names is Euro-American-centered idea.
Using gettext will supply better solution.  (In general, strftime()
can supply a good solution but now we have a limitation of column
numbers.)

Yes.  People do want to see the directory listing in their native
localized format.  This is one of reasons why I insist that the date
format of 'ls -l' should be localized.  Now people here are discussing
about disabling localization of date format and use ISO format instead.
