Thanks for the quick response!
I think the issue is due to older version installed. I have GNU sed version 
3.02 installed in my machine. This version is cause of the error.
While GNU sed version 4.1.5 installed in the another machine works perfectly 
fine.

Unfortunately you did not include the command you ran to get that error.  If 
you don't tell us and show us verbatim then how are we to know what you did?  
Please say exactly what command you ran.

Also tell us what version of GNU sed you are using.  It seems possible that you 
are not actually using GNU sed at all.

  sed --version
