Unfortunately the file list is provided by GTK+, and we can't easily add
more information to the file names.

You can use filename completion to filter the list of files.  For instance,
if you type "*.mat" <TAB>, only file names ending in ".mat" will be shown,
or "g" <TAB> will show only files starting with G.
