Short and bitter, it was. In my defence, I took every cube just to see what 
would happen. I even tried playing defensively trying not to leave any blots. 
There's always some joker that exposes a blot within a roll or two.

I think this backs up Zare's assertion that by choosing the rolls, one can 
always win a backgammon. I think he uses it in his proof that backgammon is 
finite.

Talking of variations, one could easily set a cheat factor (per player) in the 
range -1 - 0 - 1 and use it to pick the roll nearest to the specified advantage 
by interpolating between the equities of the best roll and the average roll. A 
+ve number would give good rolls and a -ve number would give bad rolls. 

This could be even a legitimate useful feature if you want to practice staying 
cool when things are going badly for you!
