That's entirely wrong - I've thought of exactly this idea for a long
time before I even started playing backgammon! i.e. How to make an
opponent appear human - and/or have human like strategies. This comes
from my chess playing days, with good old chessmaster (where I thought
it didn't do a great job).

You're right, that the post on gol got me thinking about this again - I
did mention that in my previous email. You have to realize that this
isn't exactly a ground breaking idea - I don't doubt it will have been
discussed on this group and elsewhere before. Do you mean to say, if I
find a reference before 2001 you would remove it from zbot - that's how
unlikely your request sounds to me.

I'm sure everyone here and elsewhere fully appreciates your input on
gnubg and backgammon in general. If you follow this group, I'm sure you
realize there's a host of ideas (and few get the time to see the light
of day).

Personally, I think my idea on varying the way gnubg played was quite
weak - I was hoping for better suggestions from other people! It's a
pity you don't feel like contributing (I understand that you have a
mixture of interests here though).

I hope that's clear, I didn't mean to offend you Douglas - I will try to
be more clear in similar situations in the future to avoid confusion.

Jon
