Thanks.  The package in the AUR does not seem to be modified for Arch.  No PKBUILD, so no use of pacman.  Install instructions are the same as the GNU package: ./configure, make, make-install.

I tried it anyway but received the same error messages, libguile-ncurses not found.

Just FYI, i don't know if you have seen it, there is a package for
guile-ncurses in the Arch user repository
