The history is that I added the EIEIO constant and its perror text
just because I thought of the joke. For that purpose, translations
that are similarly humorous in any culturally meaningful way would be
appropriate. However, we then assigned an actual meaning to EIEIO in
the Hurd, that being "catastrophic systemic failure from which you
cannot hope to recover" becasue it happens that the original joke
perror text communicates that well enough in colloquial English.
Hence, I don't think it would be wise for any translation team to
choose a phrase that fails completely to communicate this practical
meaning just for the sake of being a better joke.
Thanks,
Roland
