not a bug. use \markup { Clarinet in B \flat }
or somesuch.

Ahh! I didn't get it that the markup couldn't be inside the quotes. I see at the very bottom of:

7.5.8 Creating titles

is a comment which makes this partly clear. Maybe this could be expanded in the doc's.
