Graham:
Thanks for your patience with me.
My dormant unix knowledge seems to be re-loading from offline storage
;-}.
Based on your comments I installed fink.
After installing I looked for the latest package for lilypond.
On fink it's 2.2.6-2.
On the lilypond site the latest Panther tarball is 2.6.3.
That's quite a difference of 4 minor releases IMHO.
Until now I have been working on the 2.6.3 version.
[BTW I remember Matthias from way back when I was using GUSI (System 7
or thereabouts).
With all the ports he has to maintain it's no wonder that the lilypond
one is quite a bit behind.]
In fact I read through the fink patch for 2.2.6-2 and found the
replacement.
In file .../stepmake/stepmake/compile-vars.make
SHARED_FLAGS = -shared
is replaced by
SHARED_FLAGS = -bundle -flat_namespace -undefined suppress
Whether the other patches are required time will tell.
But at least this allowed me to run make.
Thanks for your help so far.
respect...
Peter
