You can also build lily on the mac (almost)without patching.
With the attached scripts, I build lily from CVS.

the aclocal.patch thing is to make gcc find the flex header from fink,
not the one shipped with OS X, for it is obsolete. There may be a better
way to do that (and I'd be glad to hear about).
