The pop-up is useful, but only to indicate that Ghostscript is running and therefore the compile is about to complete. It gives no further information about the success or failure of thew compile - on Windows you still need to open the log file.
To get over this limitation, I wrote my own "Lilypond monitor". It receives the ly file as the command line string and runs LilyPond. It monitors the process and says when the process has completed, displaying the log file result.
It would actually be much better if we could deliver something of that sort with the Windows install. Failing that, the accidental pop-up is probably better than nothing.
