Details:
Linux distributions are beginning to enable the deterministic option when
using GNU's ar. Among other things, that zeros the time field, breaking
archive member rules dependence management and generating warning messages
with the rules' default ar flags.
I'm not sure there *is* a user-transparent way to keep the succinct archive
member rules and deal with the new behavior. Not deleting the generated
object files may be one, but half of (my) reason for sticking with archive
member rules is the resulting cleanliness.
It may be time to deprecate archive member rules. *I* like them for small
projects
