Hello,

I just subscribed to this list to ask a couple of questions:

First, before I begin, I guess I should mention what context these
questions are in. I have two hard-drives:
hda 12GBytes: 1 partition- hda1 (primary) : FAT : Windows w/ MBR
hdc 2GBytes: 3 partitions- hdc1 (primary) : ext2 : /boot
                            hdc2 (primary) : ext2 : swap-linux
                            hdc3 (primary) : ext2 : Linux

I want to reduce hda1 (FAT partition) to ~4 GB and re-partition the rest
of hda into another Linux partition (ext2).

Here are my questions:

1) Do you have to de-fragment the FAT partition before resizing it? This
is necessary with other programs (like fips). I would image it is
necessary but it was not mentioned in the documentation. Perhaps someone
should write a quick blurb saying whether or not you have to, since it is
pretty important (if de-fragmenting is necessary).

2) When creating the new Linux parition, it becomes a logical drive,
correct? And therefore is given the designation hda5?

3) How do I find out if a partition is already hidden or not? Or do I
not need to care?

Thanks in advance,
Shawn Kwang
