Plenty changed in the code. Just it shouldn't have made a difference.

Well, cylinder alignment might be a good thing. Most partitioning
tools "prefer" cylinder alignment.

Sounds like a bug introduced in 1.6.12. Can you please send me parted
and fdisk "print" output?
