[Bug-tar] question regarding extraction to different paths (request) |

Hi,
I appologize if this is not the correct mailing-list, but it is the only one
for GNU tar...
I have the following situation:
/dir1/file1
/dir1/file2
I create new archive by archiving /dir1.
Now I create
/dir2
/dir3
Is it possible to extract file1 into /dir2 and file2 into dir3?
and
Is it possible to extract both files into same directory, but so that dir1
is not created?
This would give (if using dir2):
/dir2/file1
/dir2/file2
I know that this is possible if I create archive within /dir1 directory,
but can it be done if I specify dir?
(the problem with creating directly from files, and not directory is when
I need to restore into original location, and directory does not exist,
But permissions must be the same as before - some kind of backup).
Thx,
IgorĀ
