Given the recent discussions here, I thought there might be some interest in the extended attribute support that I'm developing for the next version of libarchive and bsdtar. I posted a more complete description of this work: http://libarchive-discuss.googlegroups.com/
Apologies; it looks like that URL doesn't do what I expected. (I'm still learning my way around Google services...) This seems to be the correct URL for the mailing list: http://groups.google.com/group/libarchive-discuss I've also started assembling some documentation about ACL and extended attribute storage in tar files. My goal here is to document the various approaches in use and decide how I'm going to handle NFSv4 ACLs in libarchive. (Which looks like it could be significantly more complex than POSIX.1e ACL support.) That documentation is coming together here: http://code.google.com/p/libarchive/w/list As always, feedback appreciated, Tim Kientzle
