I believe that Gene is remembering the discussion of the
"--one-file-system / --listed-incremental" bug discussed on this list
in November 2010.  Here's the test case submitted to this list by the
Amanda maintainer on that issue:

  "incremental backups and --one-file-system (version 1.25)"

(According to that thread, you [Paul] pushed a fix for the bug on Nov
22, but obviously that was after tar 1.25 was released.)



Note that there was also a discussion here on bug-tar back in October
2010 more directly related to the symlink issue mentioned in
this current thread, e.g. starting with this message:

However, as far as I remember that discussion didn't including anything
specific to Amanda.
