That's just the way the list works: the poster's address is the From address, and the list address is Cced.

This is rather old. I'd file an update request with Fedora, because there have been many bug fixes and enhancements since then.

On the other hand, the file saving code seems to be the same, and just as I described it, so I'm no closer to understanding your bug. I suspect I need help from the Fedora packager.

EXT3 is all I can point to at the moment.

That's definitely not the problem then.

When I use zile to edit a file that didn't exist, the file comes out mode 644, not 666:

That's because the default permissions are anded with your umask, so that sounds right.
