Silly me for not spotting the changelog when I was looking at the history 
just now; and indeed after writing the last email I realised I had forgotten 
to think about the case when backups are in force. Thanks, Nicolas!

So, J.B., the fix is to get Fedora to upgrade to the latest stable release.
