This should not happen. I set HISTSIZE=400000, and in ten years or so
my history has not yet exceeded that, thanks to being zeroed once or
twice by user error. Currently wc -l says 240392. shopt -s histappend
also helps by making exiting shells append to rather than overwrite
the history, so you don't lose history from a bash instance shut down
while another one is still running.
