I've uploaded a draft of a comprehensive expansion of Chapter 1 of the
manual
to http://chicken.wiki.br/new-chapter1 . The intention is to give a
new user
a `big picture' of Chicken by going through some of the most basic use
cases,
such as running the interpreter, compiling and loading modules, etc.
After
reading this chapter, a user who knows a bit of Scheme ought to be
able to
do some productive things.
This in no way contradicts the efforts underway to do `Chicken for
Python
users' or similar documents. Those documents aim to cause a paradigm
shift
by helping the reader appreciate how Chicken does what their favorite
language does, but better. This document just tries to lay out what the
system is and how to use it. I see the new chapter and these new
documents
as totally complementary.
I hope that this draft meets with general approval, and after being
edited
extensively, can become the new Chapter 1 of the manual.
