Admittedly that's more a worry with centralized servers than distributed
ones...
In any case, though, the assumption is that the data will be encrypted
before it's sent out to the net. This means that the network itself does
not need to be secure (indeed, it may be public), and the only point of
security would be the user's own box - which it is anyway.
So this feature poses no additional security problem.
