Hi list,

I have prepared a patch for local use and Mark told me to announce it
for discussion. It updates GNU classpath to use the new automake
1.9.0. This gives us a working dist tarball with long paths (> 100
characters) with recent versions of tar (tried with 1.13.93). With
older automake (1.7.x and 1.8.x) this gave problems with running
"make distcheck". With automake 1.9 it works.

This patch updates autogen.sh to fail when a not recent enough version
of autoconf, automake or libtool is found and automatically runs
configure with the given arguments. This is GNOME-like autogen.sh
script. This feature can be disabled by setting the
AUTOGEN_SUBDIR_MODE=false.The libtool dependency got update to 1.5.0
to make it easier to test for it in autogen.sh.

What do you think about this patch ? When should we commit it ?

        * INSTALL: Updated to depend on automake 1.9 and libtool 1.5.
        * autogen.sh: Totally reworked (copied from gcjwebplugin and then
        modified).
        * configure.ac (AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE): Depend on automake 1.9, support
        long paths in dist tarball.
