yes there is. They are not really barlines, just where denemo thinks the
barlines will be. If you have "ordinary" music the barlines will be there. But
if you put more notes in a measure than will fit they won't. And you can place
barlines where you want instead, which is what you need for some early and
some modern music. 
But denemo still works in these "chunks" which correspond to measures
usually.
Any suggestions for a better means of communicating or hinting at this
situation are welcome.
