What exactly was the error that occured? Your script looks basically
fine, though I didn't actually run-test it. There are some scripts in
the mc4020 directory of the gnuradio-examples package, among which
mc4020_fft.py which should work fine. Make sure that you're not running
into some permissions problems too...
