I agreed that this would be the "right" way to do what I needed (and a
whole lot more.)

But I cheated out of laziness and am creating instead dedicated blocks like:

gr_add_vff
gr_multiply_vff
...
etc.

I just sent to the patch list an implementation and test code for
gr_add_vXX.
