Hm, you just want to get started with cheap, "low-end" receivers: I'd really go for the rtl-sdr dongles. They can really be small, just sticking out of your USB port for about 5mm. I'm not aware of a similar device for the expresscard slot; if you want, build one yourself, by getting an old/cheap/broken expresscard, using some saw to cut out the formerly functioning part and disconnect all PCB traces from the expresscard connector, and soldering in one of the RTL dongles, connected to the USB lines of the expresscard connector.

Best regards,
Marcus

I'm just getting into this, so I'm sorry if I don't know much, but I was just looking for some sort of SDR equipment to experiment with that I could put in a laptop expresscard slot and forget about. Something that could be carried around in the laptop. I've been reading about RTL-SDR, so something with similar capabilities to that would be nice, or if something better exists, that would be fine too, as long as it's not thousands of dollars or something.
