Hello Nicola,

I was quite surprised by reading your subtle description since honestly, I never got into those details in everyday usage.
I'm here on Openstep and I can confirm the MacOSX behaviour:
Simple/Double/Triple click on text. Then extend by just shift clicking. Which text is selected by this operation depends on your click frequency in the first place. For example, if you double click, shift clicking extends on word boundaries.
