I think you're manifesting your own prejudice here. Actually, the gnu.org 
website recommends several licenses: GPL (of course), BSD "without the 
obnoxious advertising clause", MIT/X11, etc., and leaves to the developer 
the final decision.

Of course it recommends the GPL, and it points out what, according to the 
FSF philosophy, are flaws in the other licenses, but it never says anywhere 
"Use the GPL or you're evil". But you can't really criticize them for 
asking people to try to be compatible to the GPL.
