GNUstep filesystem layout

Is there any way that GNUstep can move away from the convoluted file system
layout it relies upon for GNUstep-base and GNUstep-make? I realize that
this filesystem structure is important to AppKit and preserving that next
"feeling" but it's a great library and it's just another platform specific
requirement that doesn't have to exist (IMHO). Maybe the filesystems can be
generated as a make target or something. "make next-layout" or somthing.
Has this topic been brought up before? Since GNUstep provides _so_much_
functionality from an API standpoint, would it be good to model other good
(or at least popular) APIs such as STL and "blend in" with the target
platform?

Thanks, this was mostly opinion, but i wanted to put the feelers out to see
if anyone else agreed with this?
