validateForInsert: not being called

Hi.

Next gdl2 problem ;-(

I've hit a case where validateForInsert: is not being called on my EOs. 
 It's possible that this is my fault, though.  Before I start debugging 
at an exceptionally low level (these are very complex EOs) or 
restructuring code, can I ask if anyone else has had this problem?  
I've had a poke about in the gdl2 code around this area, and it's scary 
ugly.
