Hi,

I frequently think about applications that would make GNUstep more
popular. I would like to suggest that we write a Voice over IP telephone
application. I would volunteer for this myself, but I don't have the
equipment that I would need to develop and debug such an application (two
networks, at least two machines, two soundcards, and two microphones).

It seems to me that this would be a really cool toy that many people would
like to have. I also believe that you GNUstep gurus out there could have a
prototype up and running after a couple of days of coding.

I agree that would be a cool app, and also agree with the fact that
getting VoIP applications to work requires lots of testing (specially,
when dealing with 3rd party endpoints).

I'm a bit naive when it comes to analysing software requirements, so maybe
this is harder than it looks, but I don't think so. Anyhow this is
precisely why I am sending my proposal to the list.

The good news are that there are free implementations of the gory
details of SIP or H.323 setup protocosl (SIP is the future, H.323 is more a legacy but widely used) and also good free codecs.

I can help with testing, since I have VoIP tests into my plate already,
and would be more than happy to see/use/debug a GNUstep app for VoIP. In
a few weeks will have a SIP gateway (in Buenos Aires, Argentina) and
several SIP endpoints to test.

Regards,
///Pablo
