This is something I had thought of doing years ago, but it was shot down.   The only thing I don't like about it is that it requires all of those themes to be compiled and installed by default.   That doesn't rule it out as a possible solution, though.

Would it be possible to "detect" the desktop that is running and auto-adapt the default theme?
e.g.
KDE -> KDE theme
Windows -> Windows theme
WindowMaker -> OpenStep theme
Gnome -> Gnome theme
unknown -> OpenStep theme

If it works in 90% of the cases it would be better than 0%.
