Slashdot has just discovered Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA) via an article on
AtNewYork.com. (DigitalSpeech.org has had him as a good guy on the "Who's
Who" page and lists a link to a C|Net article on him from May 1).

*Some* of the highlights from the AtNewYork.com article:

"he is introducing a bill that would essentially restrict the record
industry from selling copy-protected CDs"

"also said he would introduce a bill within the week that would update the
U.S. Copyright Office's Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel (CARP), which
he has criticized as being mired in outdated laws that tilt against
Webcasters"

"he said [copy-protected CDs] introduction wouldn't even impact the music
piracy the music industry is trying to stop."

"he would introduce legislation that would essentially codify 'fair use'
provisions of copyright law (that have been implied but not necessarily
guaranteed)."

"also wants to ease up some of the more copy-restrictive provisions of the
1998 Digital Milennium Copyright Act"
