I guess if I were monitoring a periodic backup, I'd want to know
1. the last time a backup ran
2. whether any errors occurred in the last run, and what those were
3. in case there were errors, when was the last time a SUCCESSFUL backup
was taken
Given these goals, reading and displaying persistent information would
be crucial. If you want the applet to just show a progress meter
whenever duplicity happens to be running in the background, I'm not sure
that would be so useful...
