Hi anonymous m,

your problems may go away if you either turn DMA off or use kernel
2.4.21-pre2 or newer.

I had similar problems with a Pioneer DVR-105 with all of 2.4.18,
2.4.19, and 2.4.20, and three different IDE adapters, whenever DMA was
turned on. I couldn't even write CD-Rs reliably. With Linux 2.4.21-pre2,
everything is fine (2.4.21 contains the big IDE change by Alan Cox that
everbody has been waiting for a long time).

Good luck,
Arndt
