I also received reports about the same failure on aarch64, but I haven't checked
it myself yet

I can't reproduce the bug here but I think I see why it's happening; grep is working but the test case is incorrect on some platforms. I installed the attached patch and am boldly marking the bug as fixed. (I see now that the commit's ChangeLog entry isn't quite right, but this is not worth fixing at this point.) Please give this a try. If it doesn't fix the bug we can remove the mark.
