I could do this, if someone tells me what exactly has to be done.

Do we also need a tag in the Emacs repository to make merging changes
on that branch back to Gnus easier?

There have been no changes since your checkout, I think.

I don't understand.  Wasn't the purpose of the branch to install yours
and Juanma's changes?  If you install these changes in the
gnus-5_10-branch, I can apply the changes to Gnus' v5-10 branch and to
the trunk too.

Maybe it's more simple to do this via Miles Bader's arch repository
(if I understood Miles correctly).
